Curtains flap from a brisk wind,
Propping my head on my hands,
I wait for him to return.
April afternoon thunder rolls above,
The sun strives to shine,
Down the lane the dirt road grows darker,
A gust of wind throws dirt in my face.
Thunder crackles again in the distance,
The sun shines through the cracked clouds,
Counting the beats between thunder booms,
I strain to look down the lane for an indication of an arrival.

Over the wind, a child cries out, Thus as if programmed, the carriage rocks, To sooth a troubled soul, That only exists in memories.
Alas the iron wheels cannot sooth, Knowing that it was put out too soon, Clinging to a memory of usefulness, And cursing at the pacifier.
The lone pacifier, That ended the carriages career, And as if the cries became too much, The carriage shudders and collapses inward,
